Seanday Extra: New Chicago pt7

Read pt1, pt2, pt3, pt4, pt5 and pt6 here
I struggled with the Marine; he knew who I was--or was meant to be--but without Menshikov’s memories I had no chance of guessing who was wearing this Dupe. He grinned and twisted my arm. I flinched and grunted through gritted teeth. A smile twitched across his face, and he pulled harder. My tendons burned, and I drew a breath, hissing a cuss.  That's all he was going to get, I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of hearing me beg to stop.

A shout echoed from the end of the alley, we both looked. It was Schulz’s platoon, calling him back. He licked his lips. “I’d break you now, but I don’t want to break my cover.” He released his grip and pushed me away. Tipping his head, he flexed. “Gotta love the pump, and this fucker has shit loads.” I watched him jog back to the rest of the men, as I rubbed my shoulder. It sickened me; good soldiers, replaced by Erko’s men.

I waited for a few minutes, nursing my shoulder then continued back to the gym Menshikov had made his base. The aching had subsided by the time I arrived, thankfully the suit had taken the brunt of the attack.

Inside I could see Ivan working out. He’s a giant of a man, or would be if he wasn’t an advanced IA-suit.  He was a mobile holding cell. His prisoner was the real Menshikov, the man I’d replaced. I was wearing his body-suit now, even though it’s too small and pinched in all the wrong places.

New Chicago stats

Thought I'd check the stats for the New Chicago story (currently six parts), turns out it's been read over 7,500 times since part one was published on the 5th June.

Thanks people, makes me really proud to know that I've produced a story that so many people have enjoyed (so far).

Read pt1, pt2, pt3, pt4 and pt5 here

I could see that Bunny was wired with pent-up energy buzzing through him. He seemed the complete opposite of Jeremy--the person he was about to become.

"Bunny, you've earned this ride, so go ahead," Erko says.

Bunny jogged excitedly towards Jeremy, rubbing his hands. "Man this is going to be so trippy." He circled the Dupe and peered into its face. "He's so fucking cute." He looked at the original in the tube. "This is him right?" Miller nodded. Bunny pushed his face up against the glass. "Oh man, I'm going to have so much fun. Can he hear me?"

"No," Miller replied.

Bunny giggled uncontrollably, rubbing his groin through his shorts. "The other guys tell me he's so smart," he smirked again, "and when I get inside, I get all those smarts as well." He fell silent for a moment and looked up at Jeremy. "They call me a retard, but I'm not, just slow. I'm good with my hands, and follow orders." He groans deeply and stares at the ceiling for a moment.

Seanday Extra: New Chicago pt5

Read pt1, pt2, pt3 and pt4 here

"You ask a lot of questions Menshikov," Erko mutters scowling at me.

"You said there were other ways to use the Dupes, how? You mean like a remote control?"

"No, like the suit you're wearing, we can put our own men inside. They'll have full access to the memories of the guy in the tube. Be them, it's perfect."

Like the band I'm wearing which are far less invasive, I thought to myself. "So what about those two Marines?" I say nodding at the tubes.

"They command some key units." Erko taps the tube of the Marine that stared at me on the way out. "One of our men was wearing this guy, the other one was empty, running with the other fuck's memories."

I stroke one of the tubes. "So you only have eight?"

"At the moment, they're finishing off another thirty. Then we can start to push our control out further."

This was very bad news, these guys were way ahead of our tech guys. I had to get this back to HQ, we need some heavy hardware to take this place to pieces.

"Jay, who's going to be running this soldier?"

"Miguel," Jay replied, "Mexican illegal inside an all American boy, rough justice huh?"

Seanday Extra: New Chicago pt4

Read pt1, pt2 and pt3 here.

"Well, Menshikov? Spill it, speak your mind," Erko growled.

I swallowed, my connection to the real Menshikov, and his mind, was gone. I had no idea how to answer. He closed in, I could taste his breath.

"The better man holds all the cards. A leader appreciates how to use it," I manage to babble out.

"Clever words, but you didn't answer my question," he mutters.

Seanday Extra: New Chicago pt3

Read pt1, pt2 here

I'd been inside Menshikov's suit for the period. It was tight, and restrictive--he was smaller than me, but I had a job to do, and I was a professional.

The band that linked my mind to Menshikov was working great. I was able to maintain his usual routine, and met with some of his friends for breakfast.

We sat for an hour or so talking shit, but going silent as the groups soldiers passed. Police had long since left the city, law and order--such as it is--is maintained by the military.

When I got bored, I left. It had been a good test for what lay ahead; the meeting with the boss.

As I approached the building, my apprehension increased; party due to Menshikov's memories. The business hadn't been good to him, forcing him at gunpoint.

Freedom. Carefree. Alive with possibilities.

Guest Post by Zach!

All these thoughts flowed though my mind was we drove down the 2 lane on a warm summer evening. My best friend Mike, or I guess I should say Toby, had his legs dangling over the edge of the tailgate as I let my head hang out and watched the clouds go by with the wind whipping my blond hair.

It'd been a couple of days and we were settling in nicely to our new lives. Mike and I were best buds for over 30 years- since college. We sort of grew old together. we missed the adventure of our younger days, we were two successful businessmen, both divorced and kids grown. We were in our fifties, at the peak of our careers, didn't have anything to prove to anyone. Looking ahead was more of the same - neither of us worked that hard any more and retirement would just be more of the same. One day I got a call from a business acquaintance of mine, he was working on a start up and I had expressed some of my concerns of growing stagnant to him. He said I might be a perfect candidate for what he was working on. He told me I might want to bring my friend Mike and meet with him if I was interested in a challenge.
