This whole story happened a several years ago. It was Samhain, what is usually called Halloween today. My friends and I had the tradition to venture in Ireland mainland so we could have a night by ourselves, to think about the past, the present and the future. On that year, we went for the mountains. Old Irish mythology always speaks of the mountains as one of the main hiding place for the “Little People” (Faeries, gnomes, pixies, etc), we thought it would be suitable for such a night.
We arrived there around 8 o’clock. We knew the sun was going down around 9;30 at this time of the year so we hurried up to gather a lot of wood for the bonfire. Such was the tradition of the Samhain, gather a huge pile of wood, light it, sit around and drink, chat, cry. (Could happen depending on the memories recalled, because the whole night chatting was based on old time memories and how we would see the upcoming year.) After an hour or so, we managed to get a 8 feet tall pile of wood. The sky was slowly darkening but we decided to wait for sunset to lit the bonfire. We had about half an hour to wait. Scott, my best friend, went for a piss while I remained with Rick. We opened two bottles of beer and looked at the skies, seeing the first stars appear. Rick was quite charming, like always. I had a crush on him since elementary school but never had the courage to tell him. We were both remaining silent. I was focusing on each of his breath, hearing his cloth move with his rising chest. I was barely looking at the sky anymore, I didn’t notice it go completely dark. It is Rick which got me out of that state when he made me realize we didn’t see Scott back since he went empty his bladder.
We went out in the woods, calling his name:
“Scott! Scott! Where are you bud!”
No answer.
We began to freak out, what could have happened, was there someone around in the wood? That would be exceptional, the nearest town is numerous kilometres away. I looked deeply in Rick’s eyes and told him:
“Rick, I’m scared.”
He didn’t answer but grabbed me by the hand; my heart was almost trying to rip out of my chest. He brought me deeper into the woods, I didn’t question him. Suddenly, he disappeared. He left my hand and jumped sideway in the shadow of the forest. I saw some dancing flame-like lights come and dance around me.

I saw a huge flash of light and when I came back to myself, it wasn’t the night anymore. Daylight shinned upon my body, which was now shirtless. I was chained to two trees. Isaw Rick on my side, he was grinning, and shirtless too but not chained. He walked up to me:
“Hello there jock boy”, he said.
“Wh- What? Rick you know I’m skinny as hell and that I am far from being such a “jock” as you call me” I answered.
He laughed, “Not anymore” and waved his hand. As soon as he did, a small pond of water appeared at my feet so I could see my reflection. The man chained to the trees wasn’t me, at least didn’t look like my actual self. I began to freak.

“What happened? Did you do this to me?”
He snapped his fingers: the chains disappeared. He grabbed my hand and said on a low tone:
“I can’t really tell you. But I know you wanted to be with me, but I just couldn’t have a relationship with a mortal. Now, however, things quite changed for you.”
I stood there, confused about all he just said to me. He smiled and caressed my abdominals. He moved up forward on the trail. I noticed a tattoo I never saw before on his shoulder.

“Oh, that’s nothing, now follow!”
I didn’t argue and followed him. He brought me to some kind of mushroom circle in the middle of the room. He stopped just before it and grabbed my hand.
“Are you ready?”
“Ready for what?” I answered.
“Ready for your new life” He said with a smirk.
From now on I can’t really tell you the story. All I can tell you is that we got together in the mushroom circle and since then, Rick and I are living happily together. Oh, and for those of you wondering, Scott got safely to his house that night… that night where everything changed.
