I had saved for months and had planned an amazing trip with my friends to San Diego but a week prior my friend ran into some financial issues and had to cancel. I was determined to still go and have fun even though I would be a loaner on vacation. I knew no matter what I could still relax on the beach get a tan and see some shows. College was due to start in 3 weeks so I had to go so I can finish my last semester for my bachelors degree and start my new career in business marketing.
The moment the flight landed I went to baggage claim to get my luggage. Then after everyone's bags were off the area I noticed mine never came out or someone took it before I got there. I went to the lost and found and put a claim in for my bag since it was gone. Luckily I only put clothes in the bag and carried my MacBook and basics with me in my backpack. I was determined not to let all this affect my vacation to San Diego.
I arrived at the hotel around 2pm and checked into my room. I went up and the room was huge with a great ocean view. I sat and watched the surfers ride the waves and people play on the beach for hours and before I knew it it was 5pm. I decided to head to a local mall and buy enough clothes to last me a week in case no one turned in my bag or whatnot.
I went into several stores and finally ended up in Macy's and was trying on clothes. I heard some guys outside the dressing room talking about "how sick the waves are and how hot the girls are" and couldn't help but laugh. I always wanted to have the life of a stoner or skater/surfer with no cares in the world but when the next wave was and just barely pass through college and such. Alas that wasn't me I studied and worked hard to get to where I was, even though I did party a lot my freshman year of college.
Finally picking out some clothes I came out of the dressing room to notice a guy about 21 in beige cargo shorts and a polo ringing people up. He looked pretty good and the way he talked must had been that guy talking about the waves earlier. As he rung me up I stated a conversation about where is good to eat and what there was to do for fun around here since I didn't really know the area. He told me about a few good restaurants and sights to see. That's when I just went out and asked him if he could show me around and maybe hang out with me. I know its strange but something about him drew me in but I am not gay in any way.
He accepted and asked if I would mind waiting 15min till he got off work and he would take me out tonight to a great restaurant near my hotel.
I waited outside the store and he eventually came out. We both gave formal introductions I told him my name was James and he introduced himself as Luke. At dinner we talked and told our stories I rambled on about everything, my friends, my luggage, etc. He told me he was in Community College studying for an Associates before he decided what he wants to do. He explained his love was surfing and skating but could never go pro, he didn't have the connections or luck.
He couldn't afford college till just last year since he had to work right out of high school and had to save. I lucked out that my scholarships and family paid for everything.
The whole week we hung out going to places and sights while he showed me around. I paid for everything since I was making him go everywhere and I felt bad.
The last night I was in town he told me about a huge bonfire on the beach and he thinks I would like it. I agreed to go and he picked me up at my hotel in his car. We drove for about an hour across the city and came to a closed beach. He led me in the areas and we found a place filled with college aged kids drinking and partying around a bonfire.
Hours went by and I became pretty drunk but I know I felt something bite my leg but looking around I couldn't find anything and figured it was some branch I rubbed against.
I passed out moments later from the alcohol and awoke with the sun bearing down on me and a massive headache. Somehow my shirt was missing but it felt strange really I felt thinner, not that I was fat but just really skinny.
I stood up and noticed I was wearing Luke's shorts he was wearing that night and my skin was really tan. I went up to his truck and looked in his mirror and saw him looking back at me. I was shocked and couldn't believe my eyes, I was Luke.
I fished out his phone from his pocket and his keys and got in the truck. I saw a text message from my number on it and it read: "Hey man I have no idea how we traded bodies or anything but I decided to head back to the hotel and pack since my flight is in an hour." That was 3 hours ago, I called and he answered. He explained he felt something slither up his leg and bite him and that's all he remembered but jumped at the opportunity to be finishing college and have money not a surfer who went to community college and worked at Macy's.
He hung up after saying he would plan a trip for winter break and come visit and we can figure out things, which was 4 months away.
At first I was scared and worried about being Luke but now I love it. And it turns out he was gay and a great surfer and skater. I dropped out of college and took up pro skating and pro surfing, after a month I was picked up by several sponsors and now I am on the cover of several magazines.
Who needs college and a business marketing degree I can surf and skate all I want and have no cares in the world. When the new James came into town I visited with him and told him that we would never switch back ever. He looked sad but didn't mind all too much.
I now live in a condo overlooking the beach with my boyfriend Justin, another pro skater. But every morning before my surf or skate I go to the beach where it all started and sit on the wall and think back to that night that changed me forever.
Hey, your on a roll today :)
