I turned over and groaned. My best friend was visiting me, and he'd insisted on going to a club. It was a hairy night, I'd tried to keep sober while Mark proved his worth downing drink after drink.
****
Light peeled through the curtains, bleeding through my eyelids. I groaned again and pulled the duvet over my head.
Something dredged its way through my mind: sunlight. What time was it?
I threw the duvet back and sat up; big mistake. I retched holding a hand to my mouth and leaned over the edge of the bed. There was a conveniently placed bucket: I used it.
Collapsing back into bed, I pushed my hands through my hair and holding my head desperately trying to stop the room spinning. I tried to think why I had this lousy hangover, I'd only had three drinks; had someone spiked them?
There was a noise from the other room, it cut through my mind like an axe. I groaned guessing it was Mark, slowly I pushed myself up. The smell from the bucket made me retch again, but it was dry. Getting to my feet, I stumbled towards the door my hands feeling my way, looking through squinted eyes.
Even though my head was all muzzy, I knew something about the room wasn't right as I fumbled my way along the wall knocking over a lamp: that shouldn't be there.
In the kitchen, I collapsed into a chair my head resting in my hands, my eyes tightly closed. "Oh hey there sleepy head, I was just about to get you. I've made breakfast."
I groaned, it had to be Mark, but something wasn't quite right. "You can't cook to save your life," I muttered. "And why do you sound so cheerful?"
"Yeah, about that, I've got a confession."
"What," I growled as much as my headache allowed. "You spiked my drinks didn't you?"
"Buddy, I wouldn't do a thing like that, seriously!"
I scratched the thick mop of hair on my head. "Why do I have a hangover then?" I sighed and opened an eye, looking towards the sound of breakfast being made; then both eyes popped open. "You FUCKER!" I yelled!
At the counter was ME! "What?" He joked, "I was hungry, and you were asleep, and you make the best French toast. So I swapped us out; I'll fix breakfast, and you can..." he paused, "nurse my hangover," he laughed giving me a large coffee. "Go back to bed, I'll bring you breakfast in a while."
I took a gulp of coffee and looked down, sure enough I was in Mark's body--the fucker! "I'm going back to bed shit-head, when I wake up I want to be back in my own body. Got it?" I staggered back to the bedroom, his laughter echoing through the house.

That would have been cute with a realtionship spin on it. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Alex, people can always continue the story if they have an idea.
ReplyDeleteI love the short sort of fun stories like this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment B.
ReplyDeleteSo you prefer short stories to the longer ones I write such as "The Other Mitchell" or "Chain Letter"?
ReplyDeleteI dunno. I would keep the hungover body for a while, it's much better than the other one - once the hangover is gone anyway.
ReplyDeleteMe again! I prefer a mix of both. Every story doesn't have to be a long multi-part masterpeice.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of "The Other Mitchell", is there any hope for more of it? I know the comment / like stats weren't what you wanted, but it's *such* a great story -- and I'm dying to know what happens next!
ReplyDeleteYeah, first thing that came to mind. Maybe he's prepping lunch as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill. It's just good to know that people are still enjoying the stories I come up with that's all.
ReplyDeleteThanks B.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment, there is at least another three parts in my head, but a multi-part story like that takes a lot more time to write.
ReplyDeleteYou'll be seeing additional parts for sure.
Hot photo.- Si
