“Hello, Casey”.
“My name is Peter, not Casey. Who are you and how did you
get in?” Casey was certain he had locked the door and he certainly was not
going to let anyone know who he was, let alone some stranger that somehow just
walked in.
“Name’s Finn. Merlin sent me, mate, so you can drop the
“Peter” act. I knocked but no one answered and the door wasn’t bolted so I came
in.” Finn extended his hand in greeting.
“No act here, Finn. I’m Peter Quinn and this is my home.
What do you want?”
“Like I said Merlin sent me. He thought you might need some
watching over while you’re in hiding.” Casey was still puzzled. He had only
been Peter for about an hour and Merlin was already sending someone to watch
him? That just didn’t make sense to him but then nothing Merlin did made a
whole lot of sense. Maybe Finn could be trusted.
Finn certainly cut a dashing figure as he sat in a chair.
His white shirt, tie, leather pants, and boots accentuated his tall and trim
but well-toned body. The handsomeness of his model-like face was incredible to
Casey, who had never actually met a man that looked like him before. He
certainly didn’t look like anyone who would mean him harm but then at the same
time he didn’t look like he was exactly a bodyguard either. Maybe Merlin did
send him. He knew “Peter” was really Casey so the pretense didn’t matter in any
case.
Finn began. “There are forces you know nothing about Casey.
Evil forces plotting destruction. That is why Merlin tested you. That is also
why he sent you into hiding. To protect you until the time is right. You are an
integral part of his plan.” Finn was very blunt, something Casey liked very
much. But how could Casey be of any use in a battle between good and evil?
“But I’m not anybody special nor do I possess any magical
powers as Merlin obviously does, so what is my part to play in all this?
Besides Merlin turned me into Peter so I’m not really Casey anymore either.”
“You’ll find out all in due time. For now you and I need to
get to know each other better, to trust each other, and work together.” Finn
was so charming, luring Casey into a sense of security very easily, his smile
reassuring and friendly.
“I should be going Casey. You’ve had a very long strange
day so you need to get some rest and get used to being Peter. We can get
together again later.” Finn said as he made a motion to leave. We’ve spent
hours talking.”
“Spend the night Finn. We can continue in the morning.”
Casey hardly noticed how much of Peter’s personality and mannerisms had crept
over him – the way he talked, his laugh, the way he liked to stroke his beard
when he was contemplating a point. He was no longer acting like a teenager but
rather more of a mature young man.
“Yes, I can stay.” Casey was delighted to hear that answer.
Having someone he could trust as he made the transition to Peter would make
that so much easier and he could use a friend in a strange place.
One night turned into two until several months had gone by
and Finn moved in with him. The two got to know each other quite well. By now
Casey had given up any thought of ever being in his old body again and had
acclimated to being Peter, especially with a lot of help from Finn. They lived
the ideal life until one morning when Casey woke up to hear Finn on the phone.
“…yeah…he doesn’t suspect a thing…I’m sure…should be
easy…I’ll do it soon…see you in a few days…bye.” Finn came back to find Casey
awake.
“Good morning.” Finn showed his most disarming smile.
“Who were you talking with this early?”
“I’m sorry Casey. You weren’t supposed to hear that
conversation.” The smile melted from Finn’s face.
“Why?”
“All part of the plan.”
“Plan? What…” Casey couldn’t finish his question as he
suddenly found himself unable to speak. He tried to move towards Finn, only to
find he was anchored to the spot where he stood…
Finn scanned the body Casey currently occupied, namely
Peter. Peter was shorter, bulkier, and not as classically handsome – not bad
for a working man but nowhere near what Finn was used to seeing when he looked
in the mirror. He would be giving up a lot but it was a necessary part of the
plan Cain had devised.
There was great fear in Peter’s eyes as Casey wondered what
was going to happen. Was Finn going to harm him? Finn who he had thought of as
a friend he could trust. He could do nothing more than watch as Finn stripped
his clothes off, revealing his perfect body. Nor could he raise any objection
as Finn removed Peter’s own clothes, showing a muscular body earned from years
of hard work but not as beautiful as Finn’s. In some ways Casey envied Finn,
even jealous of him, but Casey had grown used to being Peter with all his
quirks. He had been happy until this moment, no longer minding that Merlin had
turned him into Peter.
“Relax Casey. You’ll enjoy this, I promise.”
Something started to happen to Finn. He lost height until
the two were at eye level, his legs and torso shortening as his body packed on
hard muscle, making him bulkier. Dark
hair started to sprout on his formerly smooth chest and legs. Casey realized
from the neck down that Finn had become his double. Only his face prevented the
two from being identical twins. Casey could only stare in disbelief as Finn’s
face began to change, becoming much squarer while a dark beard sprouted along
his jaw. Soon there were two Peters in the room, physically indistinguishable
in any way. Why would such a handsome man as Finn want to become Peter?
Finn picked up Casey’s clothes and put them on. “You won’t
be needing these, Casey. Go to the mirror.” Finn ordered.
Casey found himself moving to the mirror involuntarily. He
could only stare as the image in the mirror shimmered and shifted, becoming
Finn in all his glory. The reflected Finn stepped out of the mirror, enveloping
Casey in a blinding white light…
…Finn’s striking
visage… staring back at Casey from the mirror…
Casey tried to raise his arm… and found Finn raising his…
he touched his face… Finn did the same… he looked down upon his naked body… to
find… he was Finn!
“Why?” Casey heard Finn’s melodic baritone.
“All part of the plan, Finn.” The man now Peter replied.
“All part of the plan.”
