So what's so secret? Well, you see my job now is to pretended to be other people--not animals. Its sort of a promotion, I guess.
But I'm digressing. Just like the aquatics team, it's undercover work. I used to follow subs, warships and shit like that. At the start of an assignment, I'd squeeze into something appropriate for the mission. Usually dolphins or seals because they're agile, and I didn't have to worry about being seen when I was in a suit. The guys on the vessels that saw me just thought I was cute, or lucky. I wasn't complaining.
I'm not sure how they worked, I mean I'm 5"7' and toned, you know? I'm guessing the suits used to be real at one time, then they did something to them--I don't know; don't want to know, but I was able to get inside. They'd end up incredibly stretchy, the smallest thing I'd been was an otter, so you can imagine how weird I looked--5'7" guy wearing a stretchy otter skin. Anyway, I had to drink some juice which changed me to fit the skin--you know, small for an otter, or bigger if need. It was cool, I could think like the animal, breath underwater and stuff. After the mission was done, they got me to drink something else and I stretch out again, and climb out.
Damn, where is that delivery? Anyway, while I'm waiting let me tell you about my new job--kinda exciting.
It's within the same group, but I've sort of moved up the food chain. Done are the days when I have to pretend to be a seal or dolphin--although they were kinda cool. Come to think about it so were the sharks. Ha, the biggest thing I got myself into was a Killer Whale--shit, that was so weird. It had to be three times my size, still warm as well, irk. I'll tell you have no idea how the juice works, but after chugging it down, I felt was my whole body ballooning up. As I reached the limits of the skin, I'd start to sense my surroundings. The hard floor of the boat--the one that had captured the whale. Voices all around me, the water that people were hosing over me--that felt good. After they checked me over, they pushed me back into the water and off I went on the mission.
Where is that UPS guy, he was meant to be here at least an hour ago! I'll give him just a while longer, and I'll phone the office. Damn, they've got this new guy, he's totally useless.
So this is my second mission, the first was an 'icebreaker' they told me. It sounded kinda boring, but they said it was a good way to learn how to use an unfamiliar body--pffft, please! These guys obviously never read my resume--unfamiliar body, try being a squid for week! Anyway, it was useful working with the persons memory, attitudes and 'ticks'. I think it must have been some kind of initiation, as there were sniggers from my workmates when they assigned the mission--even though the details were sketchy.
All I was told to do was to meet Smith at the local Tech College. Jeez, Smith, he's such a creepy guy. Been doing the job way too long; old, I mean he has to be at least forty. Anyway, so I reach the contact point, and I see him in a van. He beckons me over, and he's grinning--not a pretty sight. I get in, and he hooks his thumb over his shoulder and tells me that's my assignment for the next two weeks. I take a look, and there's a kid laying in the back. "What the fuck?" I say to him, he says he goes to the college. So I ask him what the mission is about, "Just be the kid", he says. It's meant to get me used to thinking as different person--apparently.
It was kinda fucked up, but the boss had given me the assignment so it had to be legit--right? So I took it in my stride--I think Smith was surprised. I hopped into the back and pushed on the kid's chest, as expected it just sunk in. "You've already prepared him then," I said. He was a little surprised, how calm I was being, but I thought about all the animals I'd been--this was just like one of them, right?
So I pulled off all his gear, rucksack, hoody and the rest. It wasn't until I held him up I realised he was a good few inches shorter. I knew Aquatics and this group used the same processes, that checked out when I tested to see how stretchy the kid had become. After stripping down, I took to squeezing myself into his skin; in through the mouth, and down the throat. Have to admit it was a lot harder than the seals or whales. Still I kept my cool, and got myself inside, finally pulling his face over mine. The mirror bolted to the side of the van told no lies, although I was inside his skin, I'd stretched it all out of proportion. His face was all wrong, and he'd gone from 5'5" up to my own 5'7". So I asked Smith for the juice, he looked impressed that I knew so much. After finishing up the liquid, and I felt the familiar light-headedness as the interior of the van shifted. The reflection of--of James shrunk, down to something that felt a lot more familiar.
Checking the fit, I was impressed--perfect. James McIntyre, I recalled--his memories were coming to me, and seventeen, eighteen next month. I remembered walking back from practice, then a sharp pain on my neck--I touched the little pimple--the dart Smith had used. Then there was darkness, that's the last memory he had.
Huh, for a moment I thought I was going to have it easy being James, but then his schedule came into focus, and his social life. jeeez, I'm going to be busy. I pulled on his clothes, and the rucksack just as his iPhone rang. It was his--well my--girlfriend, she said I was late. Groaning, I jumped out of the van and started to make my way to her house, I looked back at Smith and held up two fingers 'two weeks.'
Shit, let me call the office, the delivery guy should have been here by now. Hold on while I give the office a call.
"Hello? This is Mitchell, I'm still waiting for 'the trunk'. Ok, I can hold."
Sorry, this won't take long. This new guy--pfft.
"I'm here. Fairfax House, yeah, that's the place. Wait, say that again? NO! Number 21, not 12! Tell me you didn't deliver it to the wrong apartment; with the full dossier? Just great! Yes, I'll hold."
Jeez, this is bad news. Hopefully they've not delivered it, and the courier's just been delayed.
"Hello, give it to me--it better be good! No, you're shitting me. I don't care if it was signed for, it wasn't me! Raise a security breech, I'm going to look for it. Yes! Goodbye!"
Unbelievable, they've delivered it to the wrong place! The guy is dangerous, he's a hitman--for the Russians, incredibly wealthy as well. I was meant to take his place, be the unit's guy on the inside, but that's pretty much screwed now! I'm going to have a look outside, see if I can see anything from the balcony. Here's his picture, see if you can spot him.
Look! There he is, making his way across the plaza. It doesn't look like he's taken the juice yet--sealed himself in.
How do I know? Open your eyes, his skin, it's loose, baggy. Whoever's wearing him isn't very big. His arms, legs practically dragging behind him, and that shirt, it's way too big.
"Hey! Yes, you. Wait there, I think you've got something that belongs to me!"
Cheeky fuck, he's waving the dossier at me. Shit, no, no, no. He's got the juice.
"Don't do it man, you don't know what you're doing!"
Shit, he's drinking it! Oh man, now we're fucked. Look his body is filling out, skin becoming more natural, taught with muscle. Damn, he would have been a sweet ride, look how that shirt hugs his body now.
Damn, I cant believe how thick he is. Can we stop him? Shit be my guest, by now he'll have all the guys memories and skills. If you want to try and take down a hitman, assassin, be my guest.
He gave me the bird, did you see that? Well, there he goes, who knows where that cab is going.
They are going to be so pissed at the office. I sure wouldn't want to be in that operators skin now.
