Seanday Starter: Take a chance

Derek look at his reflection as he went to answer the door. A tall man with broad shoulders, flecks of grey were starting to show in his otherwise thick, dark hair. He buttoned up the shirt he was wearing and turned to the door as the bell rang again.

Derek cleared his throat and opened the door. He was greeted by the wide smile of Sam; his son, Tom's friend. "Hi Mr. D, is Tom in?"

Derek's smile tightened. "Yes, he's just doing some chores. You can wait for him in kitchen if you like," Derek replied gesturing towards the back of the house. Derek followed Sam to the kitchen, only pausing at the bottom of the stairs to frown distastefully at the loud music emanating from somewhere else in the house.

"Sounds like he's upstairs Mr. D," Sam suggested.

"No, he's loading the washer with clothes. Help yourself to some juice I'll let him know you're here."

Sam watched as Derek briskly left the house, he raised an eyebrow. It wasn't often he saw Mr. Dawson, but today he was acting weird and it didn't seem right.

Outside Derek jogged around to a side door that led to the utility room, inside the washer churned and gargled. From a laundry basket he rummaged through its contents, finally pulling out Tom's shorts, some underwear and a vest. At the end of the room was the door that led to the kitchen--it was ajar and Derek could see Sam fixing himself a drink.

As Sam returned the juice to the fridge, a something caught his eye. The door to the utility room moved. Wondering if it was Tom, he walked over and looked through crack where he could see Derek holding up one of Tom's shirts. His eyes widened as he watched the older man remove his clothes; the shirt, the pants and then pulling the loose fitting underwear from his waist. Without pausing he took the blue form fitting boxers and pulled them on. From atop the washer he grabbed some oversized shorts that Sam knew belonging to Tom. Stepping into them, he hoisted them up. Zipped the flies and buttoned the waist. He adjusted the belt sufficiently that the shorts sagged around his waist.

Sam's face screwed up in disgust as he watched Tom's father take the vest and pull it over his head. Again, he recognised it as one of Toms. It was tight, Derek was still a larger than his son.

Sam eyes widened as Derek let out a muffled groan. He stretched and as he twisted he lost some of his height. He flexed again and lost some of his bulk. Reaching up, he raked his fingers through his hair, the flecks of grey disappeared and a tightly cropped style took its place. The clothes Derek had pulled on fitted him perfectly now, in fact it looked like Tom was standing in front of Sam.

"What the fuck?" Sam whispered under his breath.

Tom--as he now appeared to be spun around to look at Sam. "Shit, you saw that I guess?"

"Yeah, what the fuck? How long have you been able to do that?"

Tom paused, pulling at the vest. "Just a couple of weeks."

"And you didn't think to share that with me?"

Tom frowned for a moment and then smiled. "Was trying to keep a secret, you know how do you tell your best friend that you can look like anyone."

This time it was Sam's turn to frown, "But why your dad?"

Tom kicked at the cabinet and pulled a hoodie from the linen basket. "I was just messin' about. Practicing you know?" He pulled on the hoodie and went outside again.

"Whoa, Tom hold up," Sam called after his friend following him out the door. "So--so how many people have you. You changed into?"

"It's hard work," he explained. "Only a few people, from magazines and stuff. Dad was away for the weekend so I thought I'd try to be him."

"It's kinda weird bro'.'"

Tom's face flushed. "I was just fucking around." Tom walked over to Sam's car. "Come on, I need a beer. Let's go back to your place."

Sam didn't need convincing, he just wanted to see Tom change again. So they left for Sam's house.

Inside the house, the music suddenly stopped. From upstairs came a call. "Dad, Sam's coming over later, try not to embarrass me again." There was no reply, moments later a teenager jogged down the stairs. "Hello? Where are you dad?" Tom called out to an empty house.

  6. Thanks, glad you like it. Haven't considered making it a multipart. Although it suggests that Derek may return in the guise of Sam after stealing some of his clothes.

  7. Nice story! Love the twist at the end. And like some others, I wouldn't mind seeing either a sequel or some other story with this character.
