Results may vary. Ain't that the truth? Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but I wish the drug was more consistent, you know? Basically, I never know who I will be or what I will look like until I get out of bed.

Today, I woke up like this: soft brown skin, dark deep eyes, arms the size of trees, and huge pecs. It seems like my libido is a little less than yesterday when I was walking sex: a Brazilian model (and somehow I could speak English, Spanish, and Portuguese). The day before, I got out of bed as a surfer with sun-bleached hair, a big schlong, and a tendency to use "bra" way too often. And before that, I was a slim, pale twink who only wanted to dance until dawn.

It's actually kind of interesting from a psychological standpoint: am I still myself when I have these other bodies? Normally, I am a geeky gaymer, but when I had an undercut, I found the idea of staying at home and playing video games all night kind of boring. I am also not normally promiscuous, but yesterday, I could get sex whenever I wanted and didn't refrain from the opportunity. On the other hand, there are various aspects of me that have been continuous: I overanalyze things and am gay. I tend to think I am in control, but I wonder how much I really am. Am I dominant, or are the characteristics of each body?

Now that I think about it, maybe this experiment is not so much testing out a drug as testing theories of personhood. Who am I really?

  3. Very interesting. I'm always fascinated by the relationship between the mind and the body and how much each is shaped by the other.

Oh, and if I had that drug, I don't think I'd be complaining either. :)

  5. Fun short story. Someone ought to get busy perfecting that kind of drug. Sounds like fun.

Jays was pissed off. There, on his tumblr page, was him, himself, shirt off and posed in front of a mirror, with some fugly kitschy animal decorations on the table in front of the mirror, total white trash ... his identity had been stolen again.

He had to stop it before it 'took' and the other guy could take over his page and his life.
He whipped out his own phone and snapped a scowling pic of his own, posting it to his tumblr, with the caption, "This be the real me, all you white-boy wannabes can back the fuck off."

The votes started coming in. This happened every time. They'd try to get their friends and friends-of-friends to put their faves and forwards on it, and his own crew and fans would do the same, and so far, so far, he'd been the one to come out on top.

This time wasn't coming out the same. Shit. They were dead-even. What even happened.

His phone rang. He didn't know the number but it said "J Stone".

    "Yo. Jays here."

"Yeah, we need to TALK now."

    "Fuck you, thief."

"You wish. You're the thief. This was MY account before you took it."

Jays flinched. Yeah. The guy was right. Jays had been someone else, someone he didn't even care to be, nobody worth remembering.

"So what do you want me to do about it?"

"I'll be there in five minutes. Stay put. We can make something out of this if you don't fuck it up."

Jays paced, wondering how he was going to make this work. He couldn't kill the guy, that never worked, it just ... no.

There was a knock. He looked out the peep-hole, pulled the door open.

"Damn. I'm hotter than I thought," the guy said, looking at him from his own face. He was right. That's why he'd taken this life over, stolen this identity.

    "What?"

"We can do this just one time. You and me, we're twins. Long-lost twins, separated at birth. We do this, we both get this life. You refuse, and I put you back into the gutter, report you for identity theft, you end up a faceless nobody. For real, they will rip your face off and leave it blank." The other Jays shuddered, like he'd seen it. Jays had seen it, once, and it still made the acid sour taste rise in the back of his throat.

"I know man. I ... the last guy, the one who tried to steal this from someplace in Zambia."

    "So, you agree? Twins?"

"Yeah, as long as we both have the name."

"Fuck yes. You are Jaysen Roger Stone, I am Jaysen Ryan Stone. Shake on it?"

Jays shook on it, feeling the strong grip of his own right hand around his ... A strange sensation, like he was just now being reunited with his other half, and he and his twin, long-lost, now found, turned to the mirror, one arm around each other, big grins, and snapped their first dual-selfie.

It posted on their tumblr, The Jays.
