New Friends by Steve B.

Steve B. posted this in the comments for a Caption This back in Feb, I thought it was a great story and warranted a post of its own. Steve, give me a buzz if you want to post any more.

*Okay I have never written on this site before, and writing in an old story is probably not a good way to grab attention but whatever. I really like this pic.*

"Have you noticed anything strange about Brody and Kyle lately?" one of the underclassmen football players mumbled to his fellow team mate. The smaller guy fixed his eyes down the hall and saw them. The two most popular guys in school, ever to grace the popular scene. Brody with his short cropped blonde hair and winning smile. And Kyle with his more reserved features and more subdued brown locks. Both were popular beyond belief being not only two of the most attractive guys ever, but the best football players ever to charge through Grover High. The little guy by the lockers looked back at his friend and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know dude. They seem fine to me..." But the older one remained sceptical as he watched them pass by. Brody looked over at Kyle with a great big smile; gave a knowing look and winked at him. Unnoticed by all in the loud hallways, except by Matt by the lockers and Kyle who gave a slight blush before returning the wink with a light smile of his own. The two of them quickly strode down the hall and disappeared behind the corner. Matt shook his head and raised his brow, "there's something weird going on here..."

-Several weeks earlier...- "What's your problem" Matt complained as he tried to hold his ground. The blonde jackass Brody gave a cocky stupid smile as pushed the underclassman player to the ground. He smirked as he looked down on the guy, "Oh come on dude, I'm just playing around" his voice oozed lie slime. It made Matt cringe, but made the pair of blonde bimbos hanging off of him giggle and their boobs giggle like jello. Matt groaned in his head. ...'The fucker really is playing around. He's like this with all the new players. It's like we're fresh meat or something. It'd suck to be a nerd in this school with Jackass 1 and 2... Speaking of which' And from out of Matt's peripheral vision came Kyle. Practically King of the Hill at Grover, none could top his bulging muscles and tall height. Other than Brody of course. The only thing that kept them from being every kid's worst nightmare was instead of double teaming on wimps, they tore at each other whatever chance they got. The two alpha males hated each other's guts. "Kyle what the hell you doing here. You're supposed to be in lunch?" The tank of a brunette barely looked shaken by the attitude. The only clue was the thinning of his eyes... It was going to come to blows. "And who're you, my mother Baxter" he sarcastically barked back. The two brunettes hanging off his arms were just about as skanky looking as Brody's toadies, but at least they weren't a giggling mess. What the hell you call me" Brody erupted, his face turned red, you could almost see the fumes rushing from his ears, and so they tackled each other and then exchanged blows as they rolled on the floor. The girls gasped at the fight and Matt quietly slunk away while the two bulls were at each other's necks.

Honestly underclassmen on the teams had it easy, a little name calling, some light shoving around and then they leave you around. Anybody else other than a hot girl got really whaled on. Why just in the past three six months, they must have sent five boys to the hospital from being beaten up. Not to mention all the girls who's hearts they literally tore to pieces by leading them on and then cutting them down by insulting them. Yeah they were rotten assholes, but they were hot assholes, so no one could really hate them. And they were good at what they did, so the teachers turned a blind eye to what they did. But then things got weird, really weird.

After Christmas break and everybody was back, all the underclassmen were cringing, waiting for their turn at getting beaten up, it never came. For the most part Brody would walk up to shrimps at their locker, give that hungry eye like he was going to thrash them into next Tuesday, but before he'd do anything, he'd just smirk and then say "Just kiddin'" Kyle who usually never gave his targets much warning, didn't even sneak up on people anymore. He just stopped shoving the little guys into their lockers.

Next in gym that day, I thought that Brody was going to show off and make all us guys on the teams feel worthless. Well he showed off, that wasn't surprising; he's a muscular tank ball of charisma. But instead of smearing us, he actually congratulated us on our times. Hell he even helped me up the last two steps on the rock wall. Very weird. Appreciated, but weird. And that smile. It wasn't that condescendingly stupid one that just wants to make you roll over and die, it was almost charming. Now Brody and Kyle have my gym class so I got to see them in the same place. The tried to one up each other, but instead of the gym floor turning into their personal cussing floor they just tried to show off to the other. Slightly heavier weights, higher incline, faster times you name it. It was the quietest gym period ever. Nut things just kept getting weirder. In the locker room, their eyes met and I though all hell would erupt, but they just smile at one another like they had a secret and turned and walked away.

The quiet hung around. But rumours started turning up in the background like that Brody had dumped his two blonde bimbos Tammy and Tabby... whatever they were like yesterdays news. And Kyle did similar with his girls. Instead of girls, they started befriending the guys on the teams. Now Matt and the other didn't really like the two jackasses around, they were just there to score points and win games. But here they were actually acting like civilized people )if that was even possible) and actually playing nice. All the guys were just chatting it up with either Brody or Kyle. Going to their houses, they were rich and quite frankly their parents didn't care what they did, and they were stocked up to gills in alcohol. What self-respecting high schooler wouldn't want a piece of that? But the most shocking bit was about a month ago when Brody and Kyle where in the locker room, they'd been tolerant of each other for like two months, half the guys bet that something was going to give eventually. Imagine their surprise when instead of pummelling each other after a particularly close game of tag football, they actually shook hands afterwards... Ugh the world just shattered.

And ever since then they haven't been separated. They're in all the same classes, a point they used to hate but now appreciate like best buds. They're always laughing and telling jokes with each other. They stopped bullying everyone and quite frankly everyone's appreciating the change. Not only are they playing better than ever, now that they actually cooperate, but they started volunteering at clubs and charities, raising many for underprivileged kids and for people who were bullied... Talk about going 180. The girls especially like them now that they have the attitudes to match their looks. But now the funny thing is they're not giving them one glance. The two alphas stopped smearing the tales of their escapades before Christmas, they've been quiet since and no one has been getting any from them or at least no one's saying... Which brings us to this week, Prom week. The girls have been waiting with bated breath to be one of the lucky ones asked out by the two alphas, but the question never turned up from either of them. And whenever any girl broached them on the subject, well all they'd get is a knowing smile from both of them as they looked at each other for a second before laughing as if someone cracked a little funny.

Matt was worried about the Prom, being a sophomore it wasn't easy getting a date, well he got one. His cousin, a very sweet and attractive girl... but his cousin nonetheless. Anyway as the two of them were walking in they saw two towering giant in tuxes. There couldn't be any doubt who those guys were. They turned on the spot a acknowledge Matt with a wave. "Brody, Kyle" Cassie gushed as she looked them over with a wanting eye. "You two look smashing". Brody gave 24 carat gold smile as he brushed off his black tux and tucked in his black shirt. He replied in a low, syrupy voice. "It's good to see you too Cassie" he batted his eyebrows at her and she swooned. He continued, "So love at first sight" he joked lightly.

Matt and Cassie looked at each other and cringed at the thought... "Eww"

The two seniors laughed at the sight. Kyle had a reserved smile on his face. His white tux really brought out his dark hair which usually made him fade into the background. He looked down, fixed his pink tie, before looking at Brody's tie and giving a slight disapproving glance. "Your tie's a bit crooked" he muttered as he reached over and straightened Brody's blue tie. Matt looked a bit uncomfortable as Kyle put the finishing touches on the tie. "There, perfect" he smiled into his words.

Matt muttered quickly, "See you inside" and he pulled his date in with him; missing how the two men looked at each other with a glow to them and reaching hand into hand.

Matt sat his date down, got her some punch, got some of her friends to sit with her and chat leaving him to traverse the dance floor. He was bored, only an hour in and he wanted to go home. But from the corner of his eye, he saw one of the doors leading out to the balconies of the hotel swing close.

Being a sort of a curious guy, he slowly made his way to the door and opened it a crack. He peered outside and was a little confused with what he saw. He was expecting a couple to come out her for privacy and to make out. Instead standing at the rail of the balcony were Brody and Kyle. They were whispering to each other, so softly Matt could barely hear, so he inched closer all the while listening, watching.

"You know this hasn't been the easiest six months?" Brody muttered as he stared out t the night sky counting the stars that dotted it.

Kyle looked at the guy next to him, looking almost demure. Weird considering the guy was just about as tall and rugged as Brody anyway. "I know, but I think it's been worth it"

'Worth it, what he mean' Brody replied as he turned and looked down at Kyle with burning eyes. "I sure hope it has. Not a day goes by that I don't want to just grab you and make love to you".

'Whoa reality check! What sort of messed up dimension did I end up in' Matt wondered to himself. "You know I didn't believe you when you said that you could get us in these bodies. I mean I thought you were just joking about it over Christmas break. Who would have thought that you were telling the truth; I'm really glad I listened to you Kevin" he smile into his words as he snuggled his head into Brody's chest.

Brody, or Kevin rather responded, "I'm glad you did too, you didn't deserve to be in hospital for what those creeps did to you. I mean they had no right. First they beat the crap out of you, kicking you, using you like a punching bag till you bled inside. Then the crammed you in a locker and left you to rot, right before Christmas Break. I, I don't know what would have happened to you if I didn't come back looking for you" Kevin started tearing up and holding onto Kyle tightly.

Kyle sniffled, "I know, and I'm glad you did, you care about me so much Kev' I love you" with that he moved out from his snuggling spot, and kissed Brody/Kevin flat on the lips.

Kevin whispered in reply, "My world is you Andy..." 'Of course, Andy Gillipse, he was guy that got sent to the hospital for some screwed up reason no one would say. Turns out they used the poor guy as a punching bag, the jackasses... Wait a mo'; if the Andy and this guy Kevin are in Brody and Kyle where are the real guys?

Matt started feeling uncomfortable, he began backing away, when he tripped over a curtain. They two guys followed the noise and saw him instantly. The two of them pushed each other away like they were the plague and rushed toward Matt. Brody/Kevin gave his best version of a threatening sneer, "what the fucking hell you doing faggot!" he roared at Matt.

Matt got up and looked unsure but held his ground, "I don't know what's going on here, but you are not Brody and you're not Kyle" he pointed at each one.

"What the motherfucker are you talking about, you on weed or something?" Brody barked in frustration.

"Kevin" Andy sighed in defeat, "he saw the whole thing, he's not going to fall for it".

Brody sank to his haunches as he put his head between his knees. He pounded the floor with a clenched fist in frustration. "God dammit, why'd you have to spoil everything man".

Matt looked at them uncertain. "I'm not even sure what going on here. I only got a little bit but not much, something about you guys taking Brody and Kyle's bodies".

Brody looked up in defeat and mumbled, "they did it to themselves. The two of them, Brody and Kyle where jackasses. They had no respect for others, treated the girls like dirt and the dweebs and the queer guys were worse off. Heck they even bullied the football team, they were off their rockers. But the thing that really did it was they hurt Andy, hurt him really bad, because they found out he was gay. They were pounding him to try and get my name, but he wouldn't say. So after they beat him to a pulp, they left him to rot in a locker and went on their merry way. When I found Andy, I knew they had to be punished". Kevin stopped stuck in his thoughts.

Andy continued, "Kevin was something of an occultist. I never liked the stuff, but after what they did, I thought they deserved it. So Kevin set up a transference spell. It was timed really well. It was right over break so we could adjust. What we did was swap our bodies. Brody with Kevin, Kyle with me. Kyle is still in a coma, he hasn't woken up since Christmas. And after what happened with his "friend" Kevin's old parent packed their bags and moved away, with a delusional Kevin convinced he's in the wrong body".

Matt stared at them in disbelief, "that's just fuck up" he said simply.

"You aren't going to tell are you" Andy pleaded.

Matt looked at them, the two strongest jocks in school, literally kings of Grover, holding an comforting each other. it was strange, but... "I won't, why should I. It's not like you guys took over the bullying thing. You volunteer, help with clubs, set up prom, do great in football. I don't see anything wrong here"

Andy smile and hugged Matt in a death grip, "Oh thank you man! Thank you! We just wanted to do right. I mean we know we took their lives, but we made them so much better too, and everyone is happier this way too".

"Yeah yeah yeah, okay don't get all mushy on me" Matt joked. "So what are you two going to do now?"

Andy looked at Kevin with a smile, "we planned on coming out here at prom. We were just waiting for the right moment you know".

Matt gave his best attempt at a smile, "well if things don't go well out there, you got me as a friend".

"The two of them were positively glowing, with smiles and tears...

So this is the end of the tale. The handsome twosome came out just after the slow dance. No one seemed to notice they were dancing together until the grabbed everyone's attention to make an announcement. The girls were devastated, the guys were shocked, but between their good rep, attitude and let's face it, good looks, no one could stay pissed at them for long. I went to their graduation, it was really nice. They threw up their caps and kissed right in the middle of the crowd. Best of all, the crowd was cheering, they got really popular after prom. They agreed to go to Princeton together, completely on scholarship no less. Somehow, the two with their intellect were able to shape up the stupid jocks' grades up to a high GPA and coupled with an excellent football scholarship and well they had money to spare. I still keep in touch, they seem to be doing well, on their way to becoming doctors. I'm no rich guy, or that smart but I'm thinking Rutgers, it's a nice place and its only twenty minutes by train from Princeton so I'll see them a lot. Well that's all for now...

The End?

  2. Oh okay, wow, I didn't think anyone would notice this. It was on old pic and is a bit long for a story but I'm glad someone likes it. Even though I was typing it at 11 at night, and now that I reread it, there are glaring spelling errors... Note to self when writing, do so during the day :)

    2. Or use Word. It catches most things. Of course, Sean makes a great proof reader as well. I think half the fun of the stories is sometimes trying to decipher what someone is trying to convey. Its part of being human. You did a very good job, Steve, late at night not withstanding.
